This unusual overcoat lacks any labels, but we can say with confidence that it is of Swedish origin and was made sometime during the 1920s. It features several characteristic details from that era, such as the low-set shoulder seams. The fabric is also typical of the period, though quite rare: a grey wool in a herringbone-like weave, with subtle vertical pinstripes in blue and green. There's also a faint horizontal stripe in grey, adding visual interest without becoming overwhelming.
The coat is double-breasted, fastening with three rows of buttons, plus an extra button at the neck for windy days. It has horizontal front pockets with flaps, and an additional pocket with flap on the right-hand side. Each side of the collar has a buttonhole. The back is straight with a centre vent. The coat is fully lined inside and has one interior pocket on the left side. The lining around the pocket is sewn in a style typical of the 1920s. Just above the pocket, the letters "SFI" are handwritten—an abbreviation for the Swedish Film Institute—suggesting that the coat was likely used in a film production.
As for condition, it is overall very good considering the coat’s age. However, there are a few points to note before purchasing. There is a repair on the lining of the left sleeve near the armhole. This has been neatly done and does not affect the wearability of the coat, although the lining fabric has a slightly different shade where it has been replaced. The back once featured a belt which has been removed at some point. If you examine the fabric closely, you can just make out where it was previously attached. Under the arms, the coat has been let out using small gussets. The fabric in these gussets is aligned horizontally rather than vertically—most likely because fabric from the removed belt was reused for this purpose. There are also a few small imperfections in the wool, but nothing that detracts from the overall impression. Please bear in mind that this coat is nearly 100 years old. Kindly study the photos carefully to form your own opinion about the condition.
