DESCRIPTION
This hat is of Austrian origin and was produced by Habig, a well-known hat manufacturer based in Vienna. The hat most likely dates from the 1920s or 1930s. It was imported into Sweden and sold new by Militärekiperingsaktiebolaget, a clothing department store in Stockholm that remained in operation until around the mid-1980s.
The colour is somewhat difficult to describe, but brownish grey would probably be the most accurate. The photographs show the colour correctly. It features a hatband in a similar tone. The interior is fully lined with a champagne-coloured silk fabric bearing both the manufacturer’s and the importer’s names. It has a light brown leather sweatband, which also carries both logos. The sweatband also bears the original owner’s initials.
As for condition, it is not perfect. The most noticeable wear is along the front edge of the crown. The hat has likely been repeatedly handled in this area, which is in fact an incorrect way to handle a felt hat. It should also be borne in mind that this wear is far more noticeable when the hat is photographed in a studio under studio lighting than when it is worn on the head. There are also a few minor areas of damage elsewhere. Please study the photographs carefully and form your own opinion of the condition.
SIZE
The inner circumference of the hat measures 57,5 centimeters. It can be stretched approximately half a size using a hat stretcher. Please scroll down for exact measurements.
