DESCRIPTION
This is a bespoke two-piece set consisting of a jacket and waistcoat. The set is of Swedish origin, made in 1924 by G.U. Huerlin in Stockholm. It is tailored from a very dark navy wool fabric – so dark, in fact, that it appears nearly black unless placed next to true black. The fabric has a subtle stripe visible only upon closer inspection. Both the jacket and the waistcoat feature decorative edging along the borders, which also appears partway up the sleeves – a detail typical of early 20th-century tailoring.
The jacket is single-breasted and fastens with two buttons. It has horizontal flap front pockets and no breast pocket. There is a buttonhole on the left lapel. A refined period detail can be found at the cuffs: functional buttons framed by the same decorative edging mentioned above. The back is straight and unvented. The interior is fully lined and features two slightly angled inner pockets – one on each side.
The waistcoat is single-breasted and fastens with six buttons. It has four front pockets – two at chest height and two lower down. At the back, there is an adjustable strap for fine-tuning the fit. The interior is lined with striped cotton fabric.
Overall, the condition of the set is very good, especially considering its age. There are a few minor flaws, but nothing that detracts from the overall impression. The centre back seam of the waistcoat has been repaired at the top, and there are small seam flaws around one of the armholes on the jacket. These can easily be repaired if desired, but they are not visible when the garments are worn. Please examine the photographs closely to form your own view of the condition.
This set would pair beautifully with striped trousers to create a classic stroller suit ensemble.
SIZE
In terms of sizing, this set falls between EU 44 (UK/US 34) and EU 46 (UK/US 36). The waistcoat is slightly larger than the jacket but can be easily adjusted using the rear strap. Please scroll down for precise measurements and seam allowances.
