DESCRIPTION

This coat has no labels, but we can still draw some well-founded conclusions simply by examining it. It was most likely bespoke tailored in Sweden sometime during the 1920s. The reason no original labels remain is that the entire lining has been replaced at a later stage—most likely because the original had become worn. The current lining is somewhat simpler than what would typically be found in a bespoke coat; for example, the interior pocket is externally mounted. On the other hand, the coat now has a lining that is in near-perfect condition.

The coat features a number of details that are very characteristic of the period. Notably, it has relatively narrow, sloping shoulders, with low-set shoulder seams. The fabric is also typical of the 1920s: a heavy brown-grey cloth with a subtle twill weave.

The coat is single-breasted and fastens with four buttons in a concealed placket. It has horizontal front pockets with substantial flaps. The lapels are relatively wide and do not have buttonholes. The back is straight with a centre vent. It is fully lined on the inside with the aforementioned newer lining, and has an interior pocket on the left-hand side.

The condition of the coat is outstanding considering its age. Externally, it is in near-perfect condition. The only flaw to note is a small tear in the lining fabric at the top of the rear vent. Please study the photos carefully to form your own judgement of the condition.

SIZE

Someone has handwritten "48" on the lining just below the collar. However, this does not quite match the actual size. Converted to modern sizing, it corresponds to a EU 46 (UK/US 36). Please scroll down for precise measurements.
