DESCRIPTION
This unique overcoat was made bespoke in Stockholm in 1927 at the A.H. Greif tailoring company. It is unique in that the buttoning has been altered, likely some time ago. Originally, the coat was double-breasted with three rows of buttons, giving it a higher buttoning and a much more conventional style. The new two-button setup shifts the focus to the velvet-covered collar, making it larger in scale.
The coat is made from a typical fabric of the time – a heavy dark grey wool in twill. It features low-set shoulder seams, which is characteristic of the 1920s. The coat has two horizontal front pockets with substantial flaps. The back has a high vent. The sleeves appear to have been lengthened at some point. Inside, the coat is fully lined and has a period-typical piped pocket on the left side. In this pocket is a label with the tailor’s name and the original owner's name.
Overall, the coat is in very good condition, especially considering its age. The velvet collar is almost in perfect condition, which may suggest that the velvet was replaced and is not the original fabric. There is a faint mark at the cuffs, due to the lengthening of the sleeves. Please take a look at the pictures and form your own opinion about the condition of the coat.
SIZE
The size corresponds to a modern EU 50-52 (US/UK 40-42). Due to the lengthening of the sleeves, they are now very long, but they could of course easily be shortened to the original length. Please scroll down for the exact measurements.
