A. Marchesan shirts

Most would agree that a well-made shirt is a natural staple in the wardrobe of a classic gentleman. However, unlike a suit, the shirt is somewhat of a consumable item – much like socks and underwear – and is difficult to sell second-hand. From the very beginning of our store, we were able to offer a nearly complete wardrobe for the discerning man, with one notable exception: the shirt. This led us to consider the possibility of developing our own shirt.

We faced several challenges. First, the shirt needed to meet the highest standards of quality to complement our carefully curated collection of vintage garments. It had to seamlessly integrate with our premium selection without appearing subpar. Secondly, we needed to offer collar styles that suited the other pieces in our collection, something entirely different from the cutaway collars that dominate today’s shirt market.

The term "timeless" is often overused in this context, but we have strived to create a fit that truly embodies that ideal. Our aim was never to replicate the fit of a particular decade; instead, we wanted to develop a signature fit that pairs seamlessly with the garments we offer.

The back is straight, without darts or pleats, ensuring a clean, streamlined look. The sleeves are slightly more generous than most modern shirts, and they are also a little longer. The cuffs are relatively tight, designed to sit neatly at the wrist without slipping down. This model is intended to be worn tucked into trousers, with the front and back slightly longer than the sides, which are cut a touch shorter.

In 2024, we also introduced a new fit, inspired by Swedish work shirts from the early 20th century. This version is slightly shorter than our standard shirt and features a straight cut at the hem, allowing it to be worn outside the trousers as well. Like our classic model, it has a straight back and slightly roomier sleeves. The cuffs are short barrel cuffs, designed to fit snugly around the wrist.
