DESCRIPTION

This suit is of Swedish origin, produced sometime during the 1930s or possibly the early 1940s by Kaplans of Stockholm. It is crafted from a very period-typical pinstripe fabric with a dark navy background. The cut also strongly reflects the era, with a short jacket, wide lapels, and generously cut trousers.

The jacket is single-breasted and fastens with three buttons. It features horizontal jetted pockets and a breast pocket. There is a buttonhole on the left lapel. The back is straight and ventless. The interior is fully lined and includes two inside pockets, one on each side.

As mentioned, the trousers are highly representative of the period, with a high waist, double pleats, and wide legs. They have slightly slanted front pockets and belt loops. On the inside of the waistband, there are buttons for braces. The fly fastens with buttons, and the legs are finished with turn-ups.

The overall condition of the suit is fair, but there are some flaws worth noting. Between the first and second buttons on the jacket, there is a repair along the seam. While this isn't very noticeable when worn, it can be spotted upon closer inspection. There is also some discolouration in the lining, especially in the trousers, though this is not visible when the suit is worn. Please study the photos carefully to form your own impression of the condition. For those willing to overlook these issues, this is an excellent representative of its time!

SIZE

The size corresponds to a modern EU 52 SHORT (US/UK 42 SHORT). The trousers have an inseam of just 66.5 cm (26.2"). It would be possible to remove the turn-ups and gain an additional 7.5 cm (3"), but the turn-ups are a period-correct detail that many may wish to preserve. Moreover, the jacket is short, so even if the trousers are lengthened, the overall proportions will still favour a shorter frame.
