DESCRIPTION

This leather coat has no label except for a very discreet size tag in the lining, but we can confidently say that it is of Swedish origin. It was most likely made sometime in the 1930s. There is also no label indicating the type of leather, but we can still confidently say that it is made of goat leather. Goat leather was used for the vast majority of leather garments produced during this period. It is a very soft and supple leather, making it ideal for this type of garment.

The coat is double-breasted with three rows of buttons, and there are additional buttons higher up to fasten it at the collar. There are buttonholes on both lapels. It features horizontal front pockets with flaps, a belt at the waist, and the cuffs can be adjusted with buttons. The back is straight with a vent. Inside, the coat is lined with a soft wool fabric and has one inner pocket on the right side. The cuffs also have elastic to tighten around the arms, preventing dust and dirt from getting in more easily.

The condition is generally very good considering the age and type of garment. Swedish leather coats from this era are difficult to find, and in good condition, even rarer. They are often heavily worn and show signs of use. However, this coat has held up remarkably well and boasts a beautiful patina. There are some minor damages to the leather, including a small tear at the bottom of the left side. However, this does not affect the overall impression. There is also some damage to the leather on the belt. Overall, the leather is in good condition, very soft, and the coat will last for many more years if properly cared for. Please review the photos to form your own opinion on the condition.

SIZE

There is a small size tag attached to the lining where the text "54" can be discerned, but this does not fully correspond with the actual size when measured by chest size. It corresponds to a modern EU 52 (US/UK42). We believe that the wearer should be at least 180 cm (5'11") for the coat not to be too long.

Sweden had a prominent leather industry during the first half of the 20th century, largely concentrated in Malung, in the province of Dalarna. Some of that heritage can be found here with us in the form of leather jackets in various styles, often made from goatskin. The high level of craftsmanship and the quality of the leather are distinctive features of garments from this period.
