This coat was made bespoke in 1917 by the Nordiska Kompaniet tailoring workshop in Stockholm. While Nordiska Kompaniet still exists today, it now operates more as a traditional department store. The coat is made from a relatively lightweight black wool fabric with a very subtle pattern. Inside the pocket, there is the original tailor's label, showing both the date and the name of the original owner.
The coat is single-breasted with a concealed button front, fastening with four buttons. It has horizontal front pockets with substantial flaps. The lapels are characteristically rounded for the period, with a buttonhole on the left side. The back is straight with a single vent. It is fully lined and features two interior pockets – one on each side.
The condition is good considering the age of the garment. However, there are some flaws worth noting: there is a discreet repair high up on one shoulder, and some minor damage to the lining due to age – particularly fraying on the underside of the pocket flaps. The lining in the interior pockets could use some attention. Otherwise, the interior is in remarkably good condition given the coat’s impressive age. Please refer to the photos to form your own impression of the condition.
SIZE
As the coat was made bespoke, it does not correspond exactly to a modern standard size, but based on the chest measurement it falls somewhere between a modern EU 46 (UK/US 36) and EU 48 (UK/US 38). Please scroll down for exact measurements.
